Hiring an SEO consultant doesn’t always mean having to sack or remove your existing staff or company – you can simply hire someone to sit on your marketing team in an advisory capacity and either steer / gauge what is going on. After all, are you always aware that work being completed is in your best interests?
iNet SEO was approached by ‘Company X‘ to help them with their marketing efforts. Company X has spent the last 16 months trying to find an SEO consultant or agency to help them with their on-line marketing efforts, but sadly without success. In fact, in the last 16 months they have seen their search positions drop from 1st page to 30+. When analysing some of the work completed, this is hardly surprising.
Below is probably the major contributor to this…
Expense, but no cigar!
Their search began by finding an independent SEO who was paid a monthly retainer for 9 months and in that time, they saw no real positives in terms of search positions. In fact, this is when they started to notice a drop off.
As this got worse, they decided to up their game and employed a well-known SEO agency from the US to help them out. In the following 4 months, they again saw no gain for their £10,000 investment and not even any decent analysis that could explain what was going on.
This lead to their 3rd agency, a UK based organisation who seemed more competent but lacked highly technical abilities to help them recover from their penalties. However, they were starting to see small positive movements.
Rather than take any chances this time, they decided to look for an SEO consultant to sit on their marketing team and steer the work that was required, and this was where the appointment was agreed with iNet SEO.
The next stages
As you can see above, a detox report has yielded some interesting, if somewhat scary, results. I am not sure what some of these other companies were trying to achieve, but SEO clearly wasn’t on their agenda. More like ‘Take Money and Run’, which I am seeing more and more of. It is quite a sorry affair when you need to take additional steps to avoid being duped by unscrupulous SEO companies with one thing in mind.
However, to end on a positive note, work has begun with Company X to correct the issues seen in the detox report above and the myriad other issues that should have been seen as basic best practice.
The future’s bright.
