Website Content and Killer Descriptions

Website Content – Writing Killer Descriptions

After just reading about how to write website content, you might wonder what more you can do. You will be surprised!Website Content - Writing Killer Descriptions

Website content should never stop evolving or being added. Google likes nothing more than a website that has feature rich content – and other webmasters like this as well because it is a reason for them to come and link to you.

However, let us look in a little more detail at how you can fine-tune your content for maximum impact.

Getting Descriptive

  1. One thing you must learn with any content writing is that it will be the headline that grabs the eye. Think about what you want to say and then write it down. Then make 6 copies of what you have just written. On the next copy, change one or more words that forms a descriptive part of the headline. Do this for all 6 additional copies and use a Thesaurus if required.
  2. You should now have 7 copies of the headline. Read through these and choose the ones that describe the product with emphasis.
  3. Keep following this process until you are left with 3 descriptions but do not be afraid to keep changing words as they come to you.
  4. From the final 3, you should now be in a position to narrow this down to just one description. This final one should contain words that describe the product with the level of emphasis you desire.

An example of this might be a new camera. We shall look at how this works.

  • “Sony launch new 12.1mp digital camera”
  • “Sony unveil stunning new 12.1mp digital camera”
  • “New 12.1mp digital camera from Sony to hit the shops”
  • “Sony’s new 12.1mp flagship digital camera floor the competition”
  • “New Sony 12.1mp digital camera a hit with the pros”
  • “Amazing new Sony 12.1mp digital camera launched”
  • “Sony’s most advanced digital camera storms into the market”

Based on the fact that the first is the primary, remove this leaving you with…

  • “Sony unveil stunning new 12.1mp digital camera”
  • “New 12.1mp digital camera from Sony to hit the shops”
  • “Sony’s new 12.1mp flagship digital camera floor the competition”
  • “New Sony 12.1mp digital camera a hit with the pros”
  • “Amazing new Sony 12.1mp digital camera launched”
  • “Sony’s most advanced digital camera storms into the market”

Now remove 3 more that are not as strong in their description…

  • “Sony’s new 12.1mp flagship digital camera floors the competition”
  • “New Sony 12.1mp digital camera a hit with the pros”
  • “Sony’s most advanced digital camera storms into the market”

What you are now left with is headline content that in all 3 descriptions, offers more than the original had to offer. From the final 3, you should be able to choose one that stands out, or use a combination to make just one headline. In this case, you would use the following…

  • “Sony’s most advanced 12.1mp digital camera storms into the pro market”

Look at what you started with and where you are at now.

Writing an enticing headline is possible if you approach it from a methodical viewpoint. What starts out as normal, can suddenly turn into exceptional.
