21st January 2011 – Andy Drinkwater
It seems to have been something of a busy start to the year for many SEO’s, including the large internet marketing agencies, but I am hearing a worrying amount of noise from disgruntled customers who are paying £1,000+ per month for ‘an’ amount of SEO effort and really not sure what they are getting.
SEO being the kind of market that it is, there are sadly a lot of unethical companies about who are still practicing grey / black-hat techniques. OK, you might expect this from someone who doesn’t know what they are doing, or is happy to make a quick profit and then move onto the next poor individual, but from a well known name?
The trouble is, how do you tell who these companies are? Does having a list of big name clients really mean they are trustworthy? Well, I ran a few tests on one large client (I knew who their SEO was) and after looking at the results, I was shocked to see more than 600 pages with basic errors on each! I mean, we are talking schoolboy errors!
Never ending story sadly…
